Argan Oil Hair Mask Benefits by Sierra Bright
1. Eliminate dandruff and dry scalp
Argan oil is a great moisturizer and can be used to fight both dandruff and dry scalp as it’s extraordinarily high in vitamin E and antioxidants. The essential fatty acids in the oil are also believed to help reduce skin inflammation and prevent dryness.
Many people suffer from flakiness and dry scalp as they tend to shampoo with drying chemical agents without restoring it with moisture which it needs to stay healthy. If it’s neglected for too long, dandruff often results. And, if you have dandruff and use a medicated dandruff shampoo, not only is your body getting a hefty dose of chemical ingredients, but it will actually dry out both your scalp and hair more, adding to the problem over time.
Instead, use Argan oil on your scalp to reduce dryness and nourish your hair by warming 5 or 6 drops of the oil between your palms. Apply the warmed oil to your scalp and massage well, and then put on a shower cap and allow the oil to soak into the hair and scalp for at least a few hours, or ideally, overnight. Treating your scalp twice a week with the oil will help eliminate dandruff and dryness.
- Tame frizz, flyaways, and repair split ends by using it as a leave-in conditioner
Argan oil can be used as a leave-in conditioner, to help prevent frizz and flyaways, while also working to repair split ends.
Start with just a drop of the oil, warming it in your palms before spreading it throughout your hair with your fingers. Pay close attention to the ends of the hair. Afterward, add about 1/2 drop to your fingers and massage it into your scalp.
Most people experience immediate benefits by using Argan oil as a leave-in conditioner, it works incredibly well for promoting shine and gloss, taming frizz and leaving the hair softer and more manageable.
- Protect your hair from the heat of blow dryers and flat irons
Unlike many styling agents which can cause long term damage to hair due to the many chemicals contained within, Argan oil enriches the hair, nourishing it with nutrients and repairing damage.
Before using any styling tools, apply 2 to 3 drops of Argan oil using your hand, palm first. Then use a brush or comb to distribute it evenly throughout your hair from roots to tips which coats it with the oil, keeping it protected from heat damage.
- Treat dry, brittle hair
Argan oil can be used as a very effective overnight deep conditioning treatment. If your hair is dry and brittle, once a week, treat it with the oil by warming 6 to 8 drops in your hands before massaging it into your scalp. Work it through your hair, applying to the ends and then pull all of your hair up into a shower cap. The shower cap helps retain your natural body heat which allows the oil to penetrate better, as well as keeping the oil away from your pillowcase. In the morning, wash your hair as you normally would and rinse well, until all oil residue is gone. Apply this treatment once a week to maintain healthier hair.
- Protecting your hair from swimming
Chemicals used in swimming pools, as well as salty sea water, can have a devastating effect on your hair, leaving it dry and dull. Protect your hair from chlorine and salt by soaking it in water from the roots to the tip, and then applying a few drops of the oil, again, working it through from the roots to the tips to lock in moisture and act as a barrier. Repeat the procedure every time you go back in the water.
Wash and condition your hair as soon as you can after swimming. Afterward, gently squeeze the ends of the hair dry with a microfiber towel. Using about a dime-sized amount of Argan oil, warm it in the palm of your hand and then gently pull it through the bottom two inches of your hair. Comb your hair from roots to tips using a wide-tooth comb to evenly distribute. Avoid using heated styling equipment, instead allowing your hair to air dry.
- Treating hair loss
Many people, both men, and women suffer from hair loss. In fact, though many mistake it as a strictly male-related condition, 40 percent of American women experience it. When you first notice that you’re losing more and more hair in the shower, bathroom sink, and on your hair brush, your first reaction is probably denial, but as the loss increases, it’s important not to ignore it and take action. Argan oil is an excellent oil for stopping hair loss and even helping to promote new growth by treating the scalp three times a week.
Argan oil helps prevent hair loss by ensuring that you don’t lose more follicles than you’re able to grow – when that happens, hair loss becomes noticeable. Multiple studies on the oil’s effect on hair re-growth have found that it can stimulate the scalp due to its rich nutrient content to produce more hair. Other research has indicated that it helps hair grow faster in a shorter period of time. One particular study out of South Korea found that 44% of participants experienced “clear hair regrowth” with Argan oil treatment – as good as the drug minoxidil, but without the potentially harmful side effects.
To treat hair loss, place a few drops of the oil onto your fingertips and massage it into your scalp using a circular motion. Start at the front hairline, working your way back across your head and down each side and back. Continue the oil massage for 15 minutes to allow the oil to totally penetrate your scalp and help stimulate blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles.
By following this treatment diligently, three times a week, you’ll notice fewer and fewer hairs left in your tub, and an improvement in hair texture, thickness, and length.
- Define curls
For those with curls, Argan oil can help with manageability, and help define those curls for a more beautiful look. Just apply a few drops to the palm of your hand. Run your hand through your hair, focusing on the ends and layers. Next, put your hair in a microfiber towel and squeeze it gently without rubbing. Repeat, working from tips to roots each time. Your curls will not only be more defined, but they’ll be more manageable and stronger.
- Give your hair a shinier, glowing look
Applying a few drops of Argan oil on your hair every day will make it look shinier, more lustrous and even give it a more glowing appearance. The oil immediately soaks into the hair fiber, providing it with essential nutrients for protection that lasts.
- Sun protection
When you plan to spend time out in the sun, before going outside, apply a few drops of Argan oil to your hair to prevent sun damage. After you’ve worked it through from roots to ends, braid your hair to lock in moisturizer

6 Benefits of Topical Use of Shea Butter
1. Key Ingredient for Natural Skin Care
Most of our skin care products contain synthetics (I call it “the real price of beauty“) that are often the primary ingredients, and you will find it in many lotions, creams, eye makeup, facial makeup and lipsticks.
In contrast, raw shea butter is a great natural ingredient because it acts as a moisturizer and gives a nice glow to the skin. It helps make the skin supple by providing hydration; and therefore, is an amazing skin conditioning agent. Look for products that contain pure shea butter and other all-natural ingredients.
2. Provides Anti-Aging Properties
Raw shea butter helps tissue cell regeneration and softening of the skin, which reduces wrinkles. The American Journal of Life Sciences reported a clinical study involving 30 volunteers in which shea butter diminished various signs of aging. In another clinical study for dry, delicate or aging skin, 49 volunteers applied shea butter twice daily and discovered that it prevented photo aging. It is also shown to boost collagen production, which is essential for skin strength.
3. Moisturizes Both Scalp and Hair
Shea butter seals in moisture, conditioning the scalp, alleviating dandruff and providing overall protection from harsh climates — much like how coconut oil works for hair. You can use it on your scalp, hair or both to improve your health and appearance.
Gently warm the shea butter to soften it and rub thoroughly through your hair and scalp. For best results, leave on for 20–30 minutes. Then, rinse, shampoo and condition as normal. It can actually provide volume when applied to just the roots when styling!
4. Relieves Windburn, Sunburn and Winter Dry Skin
Raw shea butter is perfect to help eliminate that itchy winter skin! Its moisturizing qualities penetrate deep into the skin offering more moisturizing benefits while preventing windburn. It’s perfect for cracked and dry heels, hands, rough elbows and knees.
Like my own homemade sunscreen, shea butter also protect your skin from the sun and is a much healthier choice because most sunscreens are filled with noxious chemicals that penetrate the skin and enter our bodies. These chemicals can cause disease-causing inflammation and numerous other problems. While the SPF is about 6, it can provide some protection in a more natural way and is perfect underneath makeup.
5. Reduces Stretch Marks, Scarring and Cellulite
How do you get rid of cellulite and stretch marks? While many believe that Retin-A and laser treatments are the only way to diminish stretch marks, raw shea butter may help. Because of its amazing healing properties and hydrating qualities, shea butter can possibly reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scarring as well as cellulite by smoothing and softening the skin.
6. Prevents Diaper Rash for Babies
Shea butter makes a great diaper rash ointment for your baby because of its antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties that can fight off yeast. Raw shea butter can help improve blood circulation promoting cell regeneration while providing improved collagen production.
Both cell regeneration and collagen production are important to healing diaper rashes quickly. Since most children are exposed to a large number of chemicals through the numerous products found on the shelf, this is the perfect DIY solution to help avoid those chemicals and ensure comfort and rapid healing for your baby.
History & Interesting Facts
Considered a sacred tree, the shea tree (Shea-Karite tree) grows naturally in the wild in the dry savannah belt of West Africa from Senegal in the west to Sudan in the east, and onto the foothills of the Ethiopian highlands. The shea butter comes from the nuts found on the tree by removing the outer shell. The nuts are crushed by hand so that they can be slowly roasted into the butter.
Once this has been done, the butter is kneaded by hand in a large basin of water to separate the oils, also known as the fatty acids. These fatty acids are what provides the restorative properties making it one of the best options for skin care and more. To get the final product, the shea butter is removed off of the top and cooled until it hardens.
Because it’s thought to have spiritual protective powers, many communities and ethnic groups consider the shea tree as sacred, and it plays an important role in religious and cultural ceremonies. The shea tree has many beneficial health claims and when combined with palm oil, it serves as an edible oil for many households in parts of Sahel Africa, particularly Northern Nigeria. Shea butter has been in existence for centuries and some believe that it was used by Cleopatra and the Queen of Sheba!

The Benefits Of Using Aloe Vera For Skin Care And More by Elizabeth Rocchino
Aloe vera has been used for a host of purposes since the ancient Egyptians called it the “plant of immortality.” Since then, its uses have become more targeted and medicinal, and it's one of the leading therapies for sunburns.
Aloe vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used medicinally for centuries. Aloe leaves secrete a clear gel that when broken off from the rest of the plant that can be applied topically to heal wounds and soothe skin.
Various studies have been conducted to examine the benefits of the aloe vera plant and it was found out that aloe vera does in fact have several properties that are effective in treating a variety of skin conditions, from flaky or dry skin, cosmetic ailments, hair and scalp problems to many more.It is also said to be useful in treating wounds and burns, minor skin infections, cysts, diabetes, and elevated blood lipids in humans, and shows some promise in treating more serious and persistent conditions such as eczema, genital herpes, dandruff, psoriasis, canker sores, skin ulcers and others, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Here are 8 benefits of using aloe vera gel:
1. It treats sunburn.
Aloe Vera helps with sunburn through its powerful healing activity at the epithelial level of the skin, a layer of cells that cover the body. It acts as a protective layer on the skin and helps replenish its moisture. Because of its nutritional qualities and antioxidant properties, the skin heals quicker.
2. It acts as a moisturizer.Aloe moisturizes the skin without giving it a greasy feel, so it`s perfect for anyone with an oily skin complexion. For women who use mineral-based make-up, aloe vera acts as a moisturizer and is great for the face prior to the application to prevents skin drying. For men: Aloe vera gel can be used as an aftershave treatment as its healing properties can treat small cuts caused by shaving.
3. It treats acne.
Aloe vera gel contains two hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These two hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in aloe vera acts as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with minimal scarring.
Aloe is soothing and can reduce skin inflammations, blistering and itchiness, while helping the skin to heal more rapidly. Additionally, in Ayurvedic medicine, Aloe is used to effectively heal chronic skin problems, such as psoriasis, acne and eczema.
4. It fights aging. As we age, everyone begins to worry about the appearance of fine lines and the loss of elasticity in their skin. Aloe leaves contain a plethora of antioxidants including, beta carotene, vitamin C and E that can help improve the skin's natural firmness and keep the skin hydrated.
5. It lessens the visibility of stretch marks.
The skin is like one big piece of elastic that’ll expand and contract as needed to accommodate growth. But if the skin stretches too far, too fast (due to pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss) the elasticity of the skin can be damaged. That’s what leaves those unsightly stretch marks. These marks appear due to minor tears in the layers of the skin caused by sudden and excessive stretching. Aloe vera gel can help hide these stretch marks by healing these wounds.
6. It's nutrient rich for good health. This solid material contains over 75 different nutrients including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, sugars, anthraquinones or phenolic compounds, lignin, saponins, sterols, amino acids and salicylic acid.
7. It soothes in periodontal disease.According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, it's extremely helpful in the treatment of gum diseases like gingivitis, periodontitis. It reduces bleeding, inflammation and swelling of the gums. It is a powerful antiseptic in pockets where normal cleaning is difficult, and its antifungal properties help greatly in the problem of denture stomatitis, apthous ulcers, cracked and split corners of the mouth.
8. It aids in digestion. The internal benefits of aloe vera are supposed to be just as amazing. The plant is said to improve the digestion and to relieve ulcers. Some people consider it a laxative, while others attribute that effect to its digestive qualities (which normalize the system and induce regularity). The juice is also prescribed for arthritis and rheumatism. To test any of these claims, steep the cut foliage in water or chew pieces of the fresh leaf.
